Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween! I hope everyone has a very lovely weekend!

Gnome known as Lucrezia

This is my little Gnome Lucrezia. Yeah, I know Lucrezia is a gals name… but I loved the name so much that my gnome had the honor of bearing it. Plus I personally think its like the name “Terry,” interchangeable male or female. 🙂

My gnome does not spend his nights guarding my garden from witches and evil sorcery… he is an “indoors” gnome for my fear of him being stolen by garden gnome liberation front groups. If your not sure what that is… The Garden Gnome Liberation Front is a group of people who steal gnomes and take them on trips, photograph them at various places, mostly famous landmarks and sending photos back to the owners. In most cases the gnome is returned.

Its a type of prank that I find adorable. The pranks started in the 1980’s with an Australian college student stealing his neighbors gnome when he went on holiday, leaving a note in the gnomes place reading, “Dear mum, couldn’t stand the solitude any longer. Gone off to see the world. Don’t be worried, I’ll be back soon. Love Bilbo xxx.”

However there are those that steal the gnomes to be malicious and do not return them. Some gnomes, the antique ones, are worth their weight in gold, such as Lampy the Lamport Gnome. He is insured for more than 1 million pounds! (1.5962 million U.S. dollars)!

The word “gnome” didn’t appear in the English language until the 1930’s… but the practice of making garden gnomes started in Germany sometime in the later 1800’s.

Wishing everyone a Fantastic Week! 🙂
