My thoughts about Miley Cyrus…

My daughter was a Hannah Montana fan when she was younger. For about three years she watched her show and wore her tee shirts. When the final season of Hannah Montana was airing, my daughter had already tired of Miss Cyrus. I don’t allow my children unlimited access to TV and internet. My daughter caught wind of the awards show, although she never saw the performance. She heard about it at school and the talk buzzing around the net about it and the music video. This didn’t lead to any great conversations with my child about tv personalities, Hollywood, or anything like that. My daughter is already aware that TV personalities are just that, made up personalities. We had that conversation long ago.

A lot of web sites are suggesting that bad press is better than no press. Okay, that might be true in Cyrus’ case. However I have a different opinion. My thoughts towards some of her actions are that Disney still holds ties to her. If Disney is still collecting money off of Miley Cyrus, what better way to make that cash flow end than by behaving in such an undesirable way? Seriously, if Disney is still making money off her and if she wanted it to stop… well, it would make sense to act inappropriately… Anyone see where I’m going with this? It’s just a thought.

I wasn’t/am not a fan. I do like the new song though, but pop music has never been my thing. Each to their own. Anywho, some of the talk I’ve heard about her is absolutely appalling. This girl literally had to Trademark her own name so that Disney didn’t steal it and cash in on it. That’s an odd thought… imagine if Disney tried to steal your identity. I’d be pretty pissed if I had to go to that extent to protect myself against a corporation like Disney. I don’t think anyone, regardless of political stance would argue that Disney is the nice one in this case. I don’t think Cyrus is stupid. I think she is a pretty intelligent girl. She did write the majority of her own music. She’s no Lord Byron, but the songs she wrote sold well.

It just seems to me that she is desperately trying to get away from Disney. She is now being compared to Brittney Spears… Seriously? No, seriously, are you fucking kidding me? Spears had a breakdown. I just don’t see the correlation between the behavior. Maybe if Cyrus hooks up with a loser like… no I’m not even going to go down the road of that scenario. How are Miley Cyrus’ siblings doing? Does she have a 15yr sister knocked up yet? Um, nope. How many babies are being born in that family out of wedlock? M’kay then. Not that I give a shit hoot about any of that, its just that most of the people I see thrashing out such harsh judgments towards her are in those scenarios. And much more likely to have far worse destructive behaviors in their personal lives. Maybe that’s why it makes it easy for them to pass judgment from their high transparent horses.

Unlike other young girls her age she isn’t getting arrested for drugs, alcohol, drunk driving, etc. She’s not spitting in people’s faces or things equally as disgusting the way other childhood stars have. She didn’t have a teenage pregnancy either. There are far worse things she could be getting publicity for.
For the people suggesting that she just end her career and do porn already, or off herself already, you’re a repugnant bunch of sick fucks. That’s someone’s kid. That’s the least humanitarian thing I can think a person could say. Then again, hater’s gonna hate, you can’t help what’s in your heart… or can you?

Someone else wrote the following, I’d give him credit, but I don’t know who wrote it.

“I watched the video and read the lyrics again afterwards. To me it seems fairly obvious that the song is about the fine line between passion and destruction, and it seemed fairly artistically viable that the video should deal with emotional, physical and sexual destruction. Sure, there are sexual overtones but it’s also surely about sexual attraction to something/someone that we know to be destructive. She isn’t, after all, licking an enormous dildo – she’s licking an enormous sledgehammer – a sexual attraction to a destructive force; which is what the song is all about, no?”

Egads! Someone looked at it from an artistic point of view. *gasps* Now we can’t have that. We need to pull out our pitch forks and torches. Oh wait, 1832 sent a telegram requesting the pitch forks and torches be returned… 😦 Darnit, Thanks Paul Schilling. Now what ever shall we do?

Now, having said all that, if you don’t like it, don’t watch it. If you’re concerned about your children watching it, emulating that sort of behavior, then be a parent to your child and don’t allow them to watch it. Take some personal responsibility for your offspring. Child stars grow up. There are trashier things out there. There are trashier people out there. (I know a few). If you don’t want it, don’t be part of it. It’s pretty simple. There’s no need to be such a cunt so nasty and tell a 20yr old girl to commit suicide just because you don’t like what she’s doing.

Suicide, no. I think Miley is a talented young lady. But she HAS actually been in the entertainment news lately in a negative light. Actually, that’s been going on for years, just not to the extent of certain others. Personally, I think she’s not quite an adult yet, no matter how old she is, and she is looking for a way to be. I’m not sure I care for the new song, but I am not the targeted audience. I do feel she basically turned her back on the fans who have believed in her for years. And that was topped by the raunchy performance at the awards. A friend of my daughter’s saw her in concert a few years ago, and said she was starting to get trashy then. I get the impression she is crying for attention and going about it the wrong way.

I don’t disagree with you at all. I think she is looking for attention in the wrong places/wrong way too. I’ve heard so many nasty things said about her since her VMA performance that it is heart wrenching to me that people would say some of the stuff they’re saying. The comments I’ve seen telling her to do porn and to kill herself were my limit. And why I posted this. I’ve gone on the side of rooting for her because of the nasty I’ve seen come out of peoples mouths. It sorta all made me think about most 20yr olds… I think you hit the nail on the head with your statement that she is looking for a way to be an adult. Some of us get ourselves together at earlier ages. Some of us take a lot more time… that’s sorta how I see her. It seems like a lot of the older (and I’m 33, just sayin) but some of the older generations are being so rude about it. I seriously don’t remember Samantha Fox or Madonna being told to kill themselves. Maybe they had the same sorts of things said to them, but it wasn’t as public then. Who knows. I’d hate to see Miley turn down a really bad path. I hope she finds balance in her life and can get it together before she ends up hurting herself or others. I don’t know if you remember some of Madonna’s performances or not.. I’m gonna post a vid. I know it’s a lot different, but it was shocking just the same at the time. I don’t know. Lol! Thank you for stopping by! πŸ™‚

Oh, I wanted to clarify that when I said “older generations” I meant my generation.

The difference in the public’s rejection of Miley’s actions and those of Samantha Fox or Madonna’s might be in the fact that Miley has always presented herself as a wholesome little girl whom our children wanted to emulate. She now has changed from Dr. Jekyll into an evil Mr. Hyde. Samantha and Madonna never changed but were always seen for the sexual exhibitioners that they are. In politics we see this in the Democrat that gets away with lying, cheating on his or her spouse, DUIs, and even murder (Ted Kennedy), while the supposed “holier than thou” Republican is run out of office for the same actions. If we claim to be someone we are not, we will be judged for it.

She started the show when she was 13yrs old and the show ended when she was 18yrs old. The “clean cut image” that was represented was a character on a show. When she went out as Miley Cyrus, herself, and was singing I don’t think she represented anything that much different from what she is doing now. The other commenter pointed out that Cyrus betrayed her fan base… I don’t disagree with that. But she did also mention that Cyrus started acting different a few years ago. That would have been when she turned 18years old, when she broke free of Disney. Disney does not own her. Which is part of my point to the post. It seems like she is trying to 1)Break away from Disney bleeding her dry. 2)Figure out who she is as an individual. Not that I agree with HOW she is going about doing that, I don’t. But it does not merit people telling her to do porn and kill herself. Especially because the people I personally know and see saying those types of things about her are adults with children and have WAY less than moral life styles. Which prompted me to write my opinion down. I find it personally appalling for an individual go to church five times a week, (I’m over exaggerating here just a little), sing in the choir on Sunday morning, then turn around and tell a 20yr old to do porn and kill herself. It’s sorta the same as a person really liking a particular character in a television show and then that person no longer portraying that type of character. Miley Cyrus has been dancing provocatively and sticking her tongue out for the past several years. Obviously there have been a number of movie stars that portrayed nice characters in shows/movies, and their real personalities turned out to be different from what they portrayed on the big screen. Which leads me back to my other point… if people don’t like it, don’t watch it. It’s simple. BTW, the song is breaking all sorts of records and the more I listen to it, the more I like it, Lol. Here is the video that’s causing so much controversy. Tell me, honestly, do you really think it’s that awful and evil?

I guess I’m just too empathetic towards people.
